Grand Excursion in Riverview Park on Sunday, June 27. Re-enactment of flotilla up the Mississippi to the Twin Cities which was in celebration of the railroad opening as far as the Mississippi River in 1854. Crowds, many in period costume, lined the riverfront. Civil war cannons fired a seven gun salute to each boat as it passed through the railroad bridge. Two boats docked in Clinton overnight and excursions were available.

.

.

The Anson Northrup and the Harriet Bishop prepare to dock for the night just south of the Showboat. In the distance is the Spirit of Peoria which was on a day trip out of the Quad Cities to Clinton and back.

The Spirit of Peoria passes by the riverfront. The Mississippi Queen and the Delta Queen were both delayed by high water in Hannibal, MO and didn't pass Clinton until early Monday morning. A very good show for all along the river and it just might regenerate interest in future excursion boats on the river like we can all remember from our youth. See the pages on excursion boats on the Historical Site.
